Shear zones (1:250,000)
dataset:
SG_SHEAR_ZONE_250K
Shear zone areas. This dataset includes fault zones and shear zones defined during the Seamless Geology project (2006-2014).
A shear zone is a zone of strong deformation (with a high strain rate) surrounded by rocks with a lower state of finite strain. It is characterised by a length to width ratio of more than 5:1. Ramsay JG. (1987)
