Description
- Title
- Forest Managment Planning Slope Classes
- Alternate title
- FMA25_SLOPE
- Purpose
- Forest management planning - areas exclued from harvesting due to steep slopes. Procedures developed to support Forest Management Plan Development in the Central Highlands. It should be noted that the name of the layer reflects its specific intended use, which is to delineate areas where the slope is either < 15, 15 - 25, 25-30 or > 30 degrees to support the forest mangement planning process. The layer is not intended to meet the requirements of other departmental planners who will probably have their own view of how steepness should be defined and classified. For instance in land capability slope is often dealt with in percent rise, rather than degrees. In fact, the layer will not meet all of the ultimate needs of FMB, which could include fire hazard assessment, analysis of roading costs and feasibility of high-lead logging etc etc. For these applications the DEM25 layer would be used to define steepness in the way most appropriate to the application.
