The Victorian Alpine Fires 2003 were ignited on 8th January 2003 by a series of lightning strikes across north-eastern Victoria.
This layer depicts the boundary of Landsat TM7 based fire severity mapping for this fire (FIRE_SEV03). This layer does not
necessarily co-incide completely with the actual fire boundary which is held as fire number 39 in the fire100_2003 fire history
dataset.

- For the process of creating FIRE_SEV03, refer to its metadata. This layer was created by making a copy of FIRE_SEV03, then calculating any polygons that had a fire severity rating between 1 and 6 to equal the same value (1) for the field "FIRE", then dissolving the layer on this field in ARC/INFO. Donut polygons then had the "FIRE" field calculated to 2.
