Boundary of Fire Severity Classes (FIRE_SEV03) for Alpine fires January/February 2003.
dataset:
FIRE_SEV03BND
The Victorian Alpine Fires 2003 were ignited on 8th January 2003 by a series of lightning strikes across north-eastern Victoria. This layer depicts the boundary of Landsat TM7 based fire severity mapping for this fire (FIRE_SEV03). This layer does not necessarily co-incide completely with the actual fire boundary which is held as fire number 39 in the fire100_2003 fire history dataset.

- This layer will be primarily used as a locator theme in DSE's Mapshare environment so users can get an idea of where the fire was an then zoom into the area of fire they are interested in to then active the FIRE_SEV03 layer.

Lineage
- Description
- For the process of creating FIRE_SEV03, refer to its metadata. This layer was created by making a copy of FIRE_SEV03, then calculating any polygons that had a fire severity rating between 1 and 6 to equal the same value (1) for the field "FIRE", then dissolving the layer on this field in ARC/INFO. Donut polygons then had the "FIRE" field calculated to 2.
- Statement
- Dataset Source: This fire severity layer (FIRE_SEV03) is a vectorized cover of classified Landsat 7 Thematic Mapper 30 metre resolution multispectral satellite data. This layer is merely FIRE_SEV03 dissolved out. Dataset Originality: Derived
