History: The 22 November 1996 approval was for the polygonised coverage. At some stage, the labels had been dropped. This was returned with the LAND_TYPE item.<P>The changes for 22 February 1996 was to modify the LAND_TYPE item from 1 integer to a 2 integer field. Relationship to other Datasets: Other layers will use this layer as a base. eg. FMA500, PLU500. Current Design Issues: A copy of this layer is used as the first step in producing new layers at 1:500,000. Major revisions must be identifiable. Related Documents: None

Dataset Source: Original linework was purchased from Survey and Mapping Victoria in 1988 as part of the 1983 Digital Map of Victoria (VICMAP). This was created using the AUSLIG 1:250,000 as its base control. Dataset Originality: Primary

The topology as required to be fixed. A subset was created from the original coverages. This contains the coastline of Victoria, Murray River, State boundary (note the centreline of lakes along the Murray) and large waterbodies.
