Index of Wetland Condition Scores

dataset: IWC2010_SCORES
The Index of Wetland Condition (IWC) is a standard method developed in Victoria for rapid assessment of wetland condition. It is based on the state of the biological, physical and chemical components of the wetland ecosystem and their interactions. The method aims to differentiate natural from human induced changes in wetland condition and assist in management decisions. It has six weighted sub-indices based on the characteristics that define wetlands: wetland catchment; physical form; hydrology; soils; water properties; and biota. It is primarily a site/habitat based assessment (individual wetland scale), some measures require wetland catchment scale assessment. This data set contains the results of 389 IWC assessments conducted between January 2009 and April 2011 to provide a snapshot of the condition of Victoria's wetlands.

Purpose
The IWC is used principally to assess wetland condition. This data set communicates the results of 389 IWC assessments conducted between January 2009 and April 2011 as part of the then Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) 2010 initiative to provide a snapshot of the condition of Victoria's wetlands.

Conceptual Consistency
Each assessment includes the assessment date, wetland ID and resulting IWC scores. The scores are linked to the wetland boundary mapping (refer WETLANDS_CURRENT dataset) via using the ID number which is a concatenation of the Victorian map sheet in which the wetland is located and the unique Wetland number. This data set only includes the wetland boundaries for wetlands in which an assessment was made.

All wetlands with an area of 1 hectare or more should be present. Monitored segments of Victorian waterways 
Attribute Quality
IWC scores are derived from field assessments and are considered accurate for the date and time of each assessment.

Dataset Source: IWC Scores were obtained from the Index of Condition website (now offline). Wetland boundaries obtained from DELWP's WETLAND_CURRENT dataset and aligned using the ID number which is a concatenation of the Victorian map sheet in which the wetland is located and the individual Wetland number.
