Chemical Baseflow Separation
dataset:
CHEM_BASEFLOW
This dataset consists of sections of rivers which have been interpreted as gaining, neutral-losing or variable. The interpretation is based on chemical baseflow separation using chloride and radon.

- Dataset Source: Samples were collected at a number of sites along the Avon, Tambo, Nicholson, Mitchell, Ovens and Gellibrand Rivers. Baseflow conditions were estimated using chloride and radon and each river reach (between each sampling location) classified as gaining, neutral-losing or variable. These conditions are only representative of conditions at the time of sampling only. In the attribute table, gaining has been assigned to most sections of the rivers; neutral-losing to sections experiencing neutral or losing conditions (chemical baseflow separation does not allow differentiation of neutral or losing sections); variable to sections which are experiencing gaining and neutral/losing conditions which vary widely over time due to both changeable flow and groundwater conditions, and; no data where no data has been obtained and interpolation between upstream and downstream has consequently not been possible.
